@idg thanks! I've been trending a bit tighter with my groove style in these last 100 or so sketches ๐Ÿ˜

@idg it's rare for me but this one came out pretty complete. There were lyrics too, but i spared everybody my singing :-)

@danalcantara hehe it's good to know that the next generation appreciates good writing utensils. Mine is particularly fond of the replaceable eraser (as am I).

    @idg thanks!

@idg I couldn't reply with photos, so I just did a mini blog post with the basics of my setup :) I had the amp on a "clean tube" setting with minimal EQ, and the guitar on the neck pickup.

@idg thanks! I'm glad it translates from my morning to yours :-)

@ccsont just seeing this now - thanks! I can recommend giving it a try for sure in your artistic area of choice.

@idg thanks! I like your tagline "A little window into... Something" - maybe I'll use it :)

@zioibi oh yeah, I'm in this for myself, but sharing just in case others might find it interesting :-) at some point (maybe 200) I'll make a dedicated site for them.

  • Jun 1, 2022 -

@zioibi thanks! I genuinely thought nobody was listening to these. I'm glad it resonated with you.

@ccsont yeah I'm paying it forward from Edward Tufte via Tom Sachs, both of whom I admire. I can say that it feels very rewarding to stick with it - even though it's just sketches, they take on a new meaning as a body of work. Good luck!

@odd thanks! It uses a piezo element as a knock sensor which I also repurposed to play a song when you hit the ball really hard ;-)

@toddgrotenhuis yep. Moderation and balance matter a lot, and are hard to achieve when things are so tasty!

@toddgrotenhuis it's so hard, not only because sugar is addictive but because it's sometimes hard to find good food without it!

Lately I draw the line at raw fruit, because it doesn't make me instantly feel bad in the way that cane sugar does - I feel like that's a decent indicator.

@a_seagull_story It's validating that it wasn't in there for like, 3 years and I just now noticed :) Kudos for tracking the Firefox changelog as well as you do!

@Archimage I saw Food5's Erin Jeanne McDowell's Pineapple Tart Tatin in this amazing video about mastering fruit pies, and it looked amazing.

@twweaver You might find Maciej Ceglowski's take to be a bit of an antidote: idlewords.com/talks/sup...

@jayeless Welcome! You do a great job describing the "canonical self-hosting" concept that I've shared your post with some friends who I think might be ready to move over to self-hosting :)

@kulturnation Yes, it's good to get a solid feel for the bike before you start having to contend with the whole "woops I forgot it's fixed" phenomenon. A flip-flop hub is great for that!

  • Nov 9, 2020 -

@kulturnation Single speed is so much more efficient overall. Now it's just a short leap to fixed gear! In my experience, fixed with brakes is the best for city riding, because it's easy to modulate speed in traffic.

@jidabug Yes, that's the thing I appreciate most about dogs - their capacity to love.

  • Nov 6, 2020 -

@jidabug is your dog a mastiff/lab mix? It looks so much like my recently-departed mastador that it brought tears to my eyes.

@a_seagull_story That's great, I'd love to see it!

I try to stick to standard vim features to make it easier to switch machines, but I do love goyo and vimwiki for organizing my notes and writing.

  • Oct 27, 2020 -

@a_seagull_story absolutely. It's the first thing I install if it's not already available.

@toddgrotenhuis I just love Leguin's writing. I recently read the Hainish novels, and it's amazing how much deeper the writing got toward "Five Ways to Forgiveness" and "The Telling". That's what made me feel like I was ready to try the Kesh stories, even though they fall a bit further out of my "Sci/Fi and Fantasy" comfort zone :)

Did you know that LeGuin made an album of Kesh folk music to go along with the book? It's actually pretty great!
